In hand therapy, the physical therapist’s goal is to restore function to your hand, wrist or arm using the latest treatments available. Your therapy will also evaluate your worksite, sports and other activities that are important to you.
Hand therapy treatments may include:

- Hands-on manual therapy of joints or soft tissue

- Customized exercises
- Fine motor activities
- Functional re-training
Even with permanent arm or hand limitation, our physical therapists can provide you with techniques, equipment and the educational to help you perform activities with less pain and more independence. Hand therapy can be used to treat many conditions, including:
- Arthritis
- Amputations
- Fractures, dislocations, sprains, and strains
- Carpal tunnel syndrome or other nerve issue
- Post-surgical procedures
- Swelling, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the upper extremity
- Joint injury
- Pain in the hand or arm
- Quervain’s tenosynovitis affecting tendons on the thumb side of the wrist
- Dupuytren’s contracture causing one or more bent fingers
- Sports- or work-related injury to the hand or arm
